The Design:
The Faire & Square Pillowcase by Brooknit Bonneterie is made for life, i.e., not kept in the closet!
Alternating textures create the effects of concentric squares: a knitting design that helps keep the pillowcase in a squared shape, yet stretchy enough to fit an 18 x 18 in insert, keeping it interesting for the eyes, and soft to rest your head!
It is a great project for beginners who are looking for a lengthy project and want to practice their dexterity, alternating Knit and Purl stitches: the secret is in the numbers.
Our Merino wool is perfect for this project: soft and strong, it is truly a pleasure to feel it on your fingers. The medium worsted weight is perfect for feeling encouraged as you watch the project progress before your eyes, and for creating the light layer you crave.
Why “Faire & Square”?
It’s a playful name that refers to a straight, geometric design, so you can see exactly what you are getting into! Faire is French for “to make”, because you know… You’re making it!
The Process:
It is knitted flat, with two identical sides of the pillow seamed together. The pattern provides the instructions to alternate a specific sequence of Knit and Purl stitches to define Stockinette and Sarter textures and create the concentric squares effect. It’s simple but requires patience and attention to keep track of the changes.

The Faire & Square pillowcase is quite a lengthy project (about 25 hours on average). We do not offer hand-knit services for this item.
-2 cakes of yarn (8oz) to choose from our selection of 100% Merino wool - Superwash - worsted weight. (1 cake for each side)
- Explanations and pattern documents: all the instructions to follow step by step, and QR codes to access video tutorials for specific moves – 2 sizes blanket included
- 1 tapestry needle. The small essential for the final step: weaving the ends.
- 10 stitch markers (perfect to track stitch changes)
- 1 marker row counter. So helpful to track your progress.
- 1 Brooknit Bonneterie label to be sewn.

Knitting needles are optional. We have circular needles in aluminum and bamboo, as you prefer.

All items are stored in a cotton drawstring bag that can also be used as a wash bag to protect the items in the washing machine.
